What makes the New Church new is not merely the teaching that Jesus Christ is the one God, it is the explanation of how it could be that a person who walked and slept on earth, is also the God of the universe.

A human being is not born for the sake of self but for the sake
of others. That is, they are born not to live for theirself alone
but for others. Otherwise there could be no cohesive society,
nor any good in it.

At Christmas we celebrate the Lord’s birth as the coming of the light. Part of celebrating Easter involves honouring the Lord for engaging in temptation for our sakes. So let’s look at what that means. A temptation is an attack on a love, and the Lord’s love was for the salvation of the human race.

Part of the message of Easter is that the Lord is more powerful than the seeming darkness. There was no darker time in history than the Lord’s crucifixion, and yet He overcame. Erik shares his thoughts on the War in Ukraine.

What do we do when we are suddenly faced with evil in our lives or in the world? How do we see the Lord’s role in allowing evil when He has all power? And what can we do about what we see and experience?

Christmas is a time of gifts – even in strictly spiritual terms. It offers many opportunities to be touched by the Lord, both through His Word and through the sincere, often pleasant, interactions we enjoy with our family and community.
